FAWS

So the other day I had this adorable dog walk onto our property and of course I went through the whole thing of "rescue and rehouse" in my mind. Unable to afford feeding, spaying, flea medication, etc. I called the local humane society to see if they could foster her and find her a good home. To my disappointment they said they don't usually remove an animal from the home in which it was found or located so I thought I was stuck with this dog. So I got them out to the house anyway to do her intake. During the intake the lady told me that fostering was completely free! Food, medicine, spay, wormer, shots, etc. Everything was paid for by FAWS! I was sooo excited to find that out! So I am now an official foster home for our local humane society and I also put up a website for them. I post on Craigslist and of course on the website to make sure all of our animals get exposure. I would encourage everyone to foster, however not all societies have free food and shots. But it's a very rewarding experience. Plus it's exciting just to get a new dog or cat every once in a while. I help train whatever animal I am fostering to ensure that it is manageable and of course it helps the animal to get placed in a good home faster.

If your looking for an animal try your local Petsmart or Petco. At least once a month on a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday they will have local humane societies over showing off their adoptable dogs.
Also you could try Petfinder.com it's associated with the ASPCA and there are thousands of animals up for adoption every day, you're sure to find one close to you.

Here are the sites to FAWS :    faws.weebly.com                 faws.petfinder.com

I am fostering Angelica right now.

Faws is also having an Adoption Day at Petsmart on September 9th, 10th, and 11th (2011), in Baton Rouge, La
At the Petsmart on Millerville Road.
