FAWS Fosters

You've met the family already, so here are the unofficials. The one's that come here for only a short period of time and then leave. As you've heard I am a FAWS volunteer, Feliciana Animal Welfare Society is what FAWS stands for just in case you were wondering. Not only am I a volunteer but I am also a foster home for FAWS as well. FAWS is not a shelter facility but instead chooses to rely on volunteers who willingly and lovingly open their home and care for these wonderful pets. Granted not all of the pets that come through FAWS are the prettiest or most well behaved but considering their circumstances they've done their best in the most trying situations life can throw at them. Of course as I get more pets I will add them to this page. So keep checking back to see who's new!

Angelica

Angelica, like my boy Davincci, wandered onto our property looking for love and nourishment. Angelica was emaciated and hungering for love, aren't they all?! While I can't say Angelica was the best behaved, boy did she have energy!, she was a very good dog, and extremely intelligent, but for a lab mix, she was well behaved.

This is her Before picture. A few days after she came to our house.

While she is laying down, you can tell the difference. She was only here for a month  or so. But we loved her and she is missed. I loved her eyes! They're just stunning.

Brenda

Brenda is 100% couch potato. This dog sleeps all day long, she is rarely awake. She is the complete opposite of Angelica, always calm and collective. Yet always willing to snuggle with someone. Her curious appearance is her Sher Pei bloodlines. There's lab in there too, somewhere. She is dubbed Mrs. Piggy. She downed half a gallon of food in one sitting before. Her belly was swollen needless to say. Brenda has not mastered any tricks but she does know a few; sit, no, down (as in get off!), and go to your bed.

The Puppies!

After much praying, I finally got my puppies! For a while we had been feeding this coonhound that kept coming around, and after deciding that cat food wasn't nutritious for a lactating mother dog, we fed her, dog food! The good thing was, I didn't have a foster dog at the time, and I had free food from FAWS, so she could have as much as she liked as far as I was concerned. Eventually I started to get worried, it was obvious Mrs. Coonhound had birthed her pups somewhere in the woods, but finding them?! There was no way!! One night, as we were unloading the groceries from the car, and it was pretty late I might add! This little white fluffy thing comes bounding out of the woods! I was rather startled by it, and for a minute couldn't figure out what it was, then it hit me! Mrs. Coon's Pup!!!! I snatched the little cutey up and ran inside with it. It was a little girl, and she was covered in fleas! So she got a bath, and a nice blow drying session. Then it was off to the shed with her. I might add the shed with a very nice heater in it! I sat for a good hour in the shed with her, just holding her and loving on her. Then I heard another puppy bark! I run outside the shed, and Mrs. Coon is back, with another pup!! I grab that one too, and whisk her off to a bath. Two girls. Beautiful girls I might add!
A couple weeks after Bella and Roxy were caught I was able to catch Travis and Payton. A few days after I caught them I was able to catch Allie, then a day after I caught Allie I was able to catch Miley, their mother. I guess I have the orphan bug bad, before I caught the mother, she was already named!!! It wasn't 20 minutes after we caught the pups that they would have a name. Of course, I may eventually run out of names if I start getting too many more in here!!! But that's the story of our first litter!!

Bella

Bella is the outgoing, super hyper, "I've got this!", kind of girl. Never afraid to try something new, and never scared to be just out of Mom's reach! She's the go getter of the two! Doesn't listen very well, but occasionally she will "shake" for me. I wouldn't say she's the smartest of the two, but she's definitely the biggest!!

Roxy

Roxy is the calm, gentle, super smart, always listens, kind of girl. I guess that's why I tend to favor her so much! She enjoys napping in my arms or lap, takin' a walk with Mom, making Mom's life difficult by shredding newspapers, the normal puppy stuff! But, she's just soo cute!! How can you say No to such a sweet little face?!

Payton

Payton is a sweety, loves attention and loves to play fight. (Slightly concerned about her aggression level)  She's a go-getter, always roaming the yard looking for trouble. Despite her aggression towards her siblings she loves to curl up in your lap and take a puppy nap. She's a good little girl and she shows potential as a hunter, or inside companion.

Travis

Travis is the little boy I've been waiting for! I just realized the other day that I hadn't had a single boy foster pet! So, I was in desperate need of a little guy to come warm my heart with his boyish ways. Travis can hold his own against all three of his sisters at the same time, can be as cute as a button, loyal as a solider and cuddly as a teddy bear. Little Travis has a special place in my heart, he loves to be next to me, and shows undying devotion and loyalty. He enjoys staying in my lap while everyone else plays, and shows no concern that the others want to play with him. He's a good little guy, smart, and patient. He'll make someone a good loyal companion and hunter.

Allie

Allie is just so cute!! She looks almost exactly like her mother. She's super sweet, calm, and though timid around people, will make a wonderful dog. Her hair is different from all the other pups, it's much shorter and thinner. You can almost see her skin in some areas. She's a joy to play with and though she's a bit of a introvert, she's still the sweetest thing! I guess with so many pups right now, it's a little hard to pin point each ones personality like I was able to do with Bella and Roxy, so, I'm sorry my descriptions seem to be getting shorter and shorter! ( Sorry there aren't any more adorable basket pictures, they outgrew the basket!!)

Miley

Miley is Mama Coonhound! Truthfully I didn't know coonhounds could be so well behaved! Miley loves to go jogging with me and just melts when you pet her. This girl couldn't have a better personality. She reminds me a lot of Angelica, but a little less outgoing. I think it will be easy to find her a good home. She's very sweet, and listens most of the time, she does pretty good on a leash, and she just loves to be around you! She's also pretty protective of her "owner" and she's quite loyal. Though she would rather be roaming the woods, she's pretty content here at the farm.

She sure looks fat in this picture, but don't let it fool you, she's skinny!

Buck

Buck was abandoned for about 6 months. He and his 4 friends were left to fend for themselves. Unfortunately the owners misjudged how well they would be able to make it and 2 of his friends were killed. Buck didn't come out unscathed. He was malnourished and  terrified of humans. We estimated his age to be around 10 years. When he first came he just trembled whenever he saw us, but now, he comes running whenever I go out to see him. He reminds me a lot of Brenda, a couch potato! Given his age, I can understand. He comes inside and just plops himself wherever he fancies. He won't move for hours..of course unless there's food involved. He's also one of those rare foster dogs who really doesn't have any bad vices. He doesn't mark, doesn't chew, isn't aggressive, doesn't dig, just sleeps. I have to say, it was quite a challenge at first...I didn't really know where to start trying to help him. Thankfully, I didn't have to do much but love him, which was super easy since he's just so loveable. Oh yes, he loves to cuddle and get any kind of attention.

Daisy

Daisy is our little miracle dog. We were told she would never be able to walk on her leg again after she was hit by a car. A year later..she can run on all fours. Daisy is the sweetest little thing. She's also the cutest dog I've ever seen! She's already house-trained, loves to play, and loves to be in your lap. She's little Mrs. Sunshine, always greeting you with a pretty little smile and those gorgeous eyes, not to mention her wagging tail.
